All about stat weights dude. Generally, your main stat is your most valuable by far, therefore the 665 beats it out. It's pen and paper work, not written in stone like you seem to believe. In fact, there's not one piece of heroic gear I've seen better than a 665 piece.

Every single piece of 665 has Versatility which is pretty much dead last for every class.
I have multi crit/ms pieces of loot in like 4-5 slots (main stats) and the only versatility i have is from 680 ring.

your 665 gear gets scaled down to 630 so the itemization becomes more important than the main stats you pleb

let's say your 665 piece has the following stats:

300 int
400 stamina
100 versatility
100 multistrike

and your 630 piece has these stats:

200 int
300 stamina
50 mastery
50 crit

but mastery/crit receive higher weights than vers/multi for your spec, suddenly you're in a CM with a 665 piece that has the same main stats as your 630 piece, except your 665 piece has shit-tier itemization.

how does the stat weight thing work? i understand that higher is better ..but mathematically how do they compare?
