yes
back in the day i played on a priv server and they were the best rated server so competing servers would constantly ddos them
they had ddos protection and it worked pretty good assuming blizzard should have something a little more large scale of the sort

I think the DDOS claims are cover for something else. The FCC already admitted to doing this before to cover up other issues.
These days, it's so easy for a company to just say "Oh we got DDOS'd" whenever there's an issue. It deflect all criticism and actually turns them into the victim. The issue is so well-known that people will just pick up the narrative and spread it around for them.
i also liked how they played it off in the blizz laucher msg as "they are targeting specific isp" trying to make it sound like it could be on our end
