It's still the biggest mmorpg by far. Don't think it's dying yet

i first got introduced to WoW in ~2008-2009, and played on a private server, partially because my parents wouldn't pay for it lol...
my private server was realistic based, but with a slight xp boost, and behind on updates. they were only implementing WotLK near 2010, when i was moving away from NY.
i stopped playing around 2010 when i moved, came back to it last halloween and played it for a good while.
one thing that i like is that you're able to catch up to people fairly quick. people were linking achievements they've obtained every year, dating back to 2004, and yet their gear was below mine, only 2 months after i started up.
the game was still fun, though i skipped most of the early content and went straight to the new stuff, basically.
i don't have any experience in Draenor or Pandaria, so there's still lots of stuff that i could go back to if i really wanted to.
it's not the same as experiencing it when it was the current expansion though, because you've just an overpowered bored person soloing raids that would normally take 15-20+ people back then.
i stopped playing during nighthold, before tomb of sargeras release.
stopped at ilvl 910, which was fairly high at the time, without ever joining a guild, or doing mythic raids. this just shows how you can fairly easily catch up and be comparable to other players.
i played dh because it was the new character, and enjoyed my time playing both dps and tank roles. being able to jump, double jump, then glide on wings was amazing, especially pre-flight on the new continent.
i started off playing dps for a couple months, then switched over and mained as a tank. ended up enjoying shorter if not immediate queues, and let me set the pace for the dungeon - and i went fast, with huge pulls.
i got lots of shit from other people bagging on dh class in general, but it felt good when a bear tank joined up with 1m less life and 100-200k less dps than me in raids.
i often outdps'd some dps players in raids, depending on the boss, and always had high dps in dungeons as a tank.
learning mechanics for raids was enjoyable for me, but being stuck on a boss for over an hour upon nighthold release (new raid releases in general) is something i won't miss.
i'm very patient in dungeons/raids, and will tell people what they need to do, what they should have done if we wiped, and how they can improve... but if the same person(s) constantly makes the same mistakes, i'd have no problem replacing them.
i paid for 1 month, bought a token because the refer a friend system gave my friend free bonus sub time, and bought the rest of my sub from then on with gold, which was easily obtained.

tldr: it's worth.

but if ArcheAge were published by anyone other than Trion, and if it weren't just a pay to win money sink, i'd likely still be there. (some of my friends spent thousands just for pieces of their gear, per piece)
$0.00 spent on ArcheAge with over 2000 hours enjoyed, but the grind to simply maintain what you had, and the struggle to upgrade was too much.
also, they fucked over pirates hard and started the server transfer process right before i stopped playing.

Yeah wow is always a fun game, although it was so good back when it started... Nothing has been more enjoyable than playing vanilla wow, in terms of mmorpg's.

As for Archeage I never got into it mainly because of the p2w aspect everyone talked about.

It's the only game I have consistently played over the course of years, so yeah. It's really the greatest game ever created.
