That's how talents used to work.
You didn't have a spec and could get talents from BM, MM or Survival talent trees.

I've used both survival and MM, can't really feel enough of a difference from one to the other for better raid dps. So far having a nice time with survival spec though.

Our mythic raid group has 2x MM hunters/1x BM hunter and this is what I hear about them jabbering all the time.

MM is indeed the highest dps although it actually requires skill in maintaining Sniper Mastery. BM is more forgiving and far more mobile, but it's really a 2-3k dps loss if the situations are in favor for MM.

Survival is just trash. They kicked a trial trying to come in as Survival.
