no.... blizz has said multiple times, it only requires a subscription, there won't be another other requirement. Go ahead and read this FAQ as well

Yeah and with that wording you atleast need to buy the starter chest thing that includes all but bfa.
I don’t think you can sub to the game without having it, but I do not think bfa is required.

wrong, the blue post is deep on mmo champ, u do not need up to BFA or anything.... literally just a $15/month subscription.

Either way, I actually play WoW and won’t need to worry about anything like that. Maybe there will be a token system in classic where you can buy tokens with gold (classic ratio’d ofc) but again I won’t need to worry about that either xD
