Isn't it against their ToS to pay people to play your account and pay for gold from currencies?

Asking the real questions. All we wanna do is talk and theorycraft on top of the 12 years or so of continued theorycrafting on old content. :baby:

It's against Blizzard's ToS, yes.

This is not a Blizzard forum.

Private servers are against both JSP and Blizzard's ToS.

If you have an issue with that, contact Paul. Otherwise, stop wasting your time. :)

Sigh.

Would gladly pay a sub for a blizzard ran vanilla server, but after all the years of requests it still hasn't been done.

These private servers are pretty damn close to being the real deal and with no other way to have that specific experience, its hard for me to not play them.
I started playing retail early 2005 and have (crazily enough) maintained a subscription ever since and would be perfectly fine continuing to do so if Blizzard was providing such a server.
The vanilla game and expansions are so very different from each other and completely different especially to current retail wow.
If the version people really want to play is not being provided and, after so many years of asking for it, still isnt being provided... can you really blame those "pirates" for playing it?
Would much rather have Blizz running it for the obvious reasons, but with this being so very close, I'll take that instead of nothing.

All of this has been said before everywhere and will no doubt be said many more times heh.

Couldn't it be allowed, but with certain conditions and allowances?
Maybe don't directly support the trades and let the players handle all potential downsides?
Trade at your own risk sort of thing.

I think I'm just beating a dead horse at this point.

I would have to agree with you. I've been playing since December of 04. Loved all the older content, and it's just going down hill. ;(

Even Cata wasn't that bad. It'd be a dream come true for Blizzard to add some legacy servers. :)

JSP is just as bad as Blizzard when it comes to that it seems. lol

From JSP's point of view...

Blizzard watches JSP (and dislikes its existence). Private servers "might be illegal". If Blizzard were to ever decide to aggressively pursue a court case that confirmed their illegality, then letting people discuss them here could put JSP at risk. It would become comparable to letting people trade cocaine or child porn here. So, there is a tiny risk involved if JSP were to allow it.

And what would be the upside of allowing it? Nothing really. Opening a small new market place wouldn't have a noticeably positive impact on the demand for FG. For discussion purposes, jsp wouldn't be providing anything that reddit doesn't already sate the demand for.

Fair point. It's just unfortunate we can violate terms in other ways, just not one that Blizzard might have an agenda for, specifically considering the hype and mystique surrounding private servers.
