any basic advice on server choice? playing on us

any pros and cons to alliance or horde, same with race choice.

if wow can hold my interest i intend on investing lots of time in it. if not i'll probably play for a month.

any other basics you think i should know about?

edit: are there any mods i should use? i think theyre called mods. anyway yea as u might be bale to tell im completely new to wow and i want to find out what other players thinkbefore i start doing more in depth research.

I just started playing again after 10 years.

Got myself a 61 Orc hunter on the Stormreaver server. Make sure you pick a nice server because i went with my friends and its a dead ass pvp server. My queue times for bg's are horrible, about 45-1 hour and dungeons are 15-30 min waits... i heard Alliance is less of a wait, tanks and healers are basically instant que.

Game now seems more of a dungeon/raiding now more then walking around exploring doing actual quests.

The mods are called Addons and you can download the program called Curse to download any addons for most pc games. I personally only use recount(dps displayer for the group) and ElvUI(a changeable interface that has 100's of options to personalize how you like

guess I haven't been around since the start, but hasn't it always been about end game raiding and pvp? also they added world quests and there are a lot of different ones so there is still plenty of questing to do
basically everyone rolls dps of course there are long wait times

if you know anyone that plays just pick the same faction. otherwise it doesn't really matter unless you plan to do end game progression raiding.
read about the classes and play what you think sounds fun. if you don't have fun try another class. nothing worse than investing a bunch of time only to hate the class and level something else
addons like deadly boss mods are nice for encounters, but not really relevant until closer to end game

hello guys some updates for you. the server with the best ping for me will be oceanic severs and the most populated server on there is frostmourne so it looks like i will be creating a character there. it also means i will be going alliance since like 90% of the people there are alliance. at this moment my mindset whislt entering the game will be like i am planning on doing end game raids so that my char will be viable throughout the whole game if i choose to play that long (from what ive heard wow is pretty addictive so it seems likely). will there be any hindrance if i go alliance because of this? from what ive gathered there are 3 main roles dps, tank and healer. im wondering which of these roles is the easiest to master assuming end game progression? im leaning towards tanks because ive seen streamers do dmg on them as well but a) i heard there was a nerf incoming for them? b ) how hard will it be for a beginner to master boss aggro techniques, basically fuffill the role of a tank?

does anyone know for sure when they are nerfing/buffing chars? i might just wait till then to start playing so i dont accidentally choose a char thats gonna get nerfed to the ground lol.

Roll a PVE server if you're going to join a high pop server, unless you feel like getting ass-blasted by 30 horde in major questimg areas

i totally understand your point but like i said frostmourne is the closest server to me over here in singapore with 100 ping while if i choose to play in a us server its at least 200 ping. Also according to some numbers i found on wowprogress frostmourne has 8513 total players with 8114 alliance and 399 horde so i think i will be ok. let me know what you think.

also another concern i have is this, im thinking of playing with the starter edition until im lvl 20 at which point i will buy the wow chest and buy leigon. my question is at level 20 should i lvl up through game aka questing or should i use the free lvl 100 boost that comes with leigon and jump to lvl 100 and do new content?

holding aggro is pretty cake now
there is supposed to be an approx 10% dps nerf to tanks across the board, which I disagree with (more so when our high dps is seeming only short term as doing a 5min simulation can bring me below what i normally see in shorter fights)

personally i enjoy tanking myself
