There is absolutely nothing wrong with them adding a TOY that does that.

There are tons of worthless / useless toys in the game and I dont see people crying about it....

It's not like they took resources away from major game content in order to make a little toy that probably takes less than a week worth of development time.

Most likely some intern solo project.

Also as far as twitter integration goes it's also very easy to develop and implement. There are tons of resources and twitter platforms already made out there. Again, probably did not take any development time from other major game aspects.
