Like you I haven't played MoP at all because fuck pandas and that shitty storyline all together. However WoD is a relief. I came back in the last month of MoP so I could level a few characters to 90 and it was worth it.

TL;DR: Such WoD, much WoW.

Expac has been fun from what i been able to play. I say give it a week before you come back though, or else you will just get aggravated with all the que times.

everything is very easy to follow/streamlined, a lot of fun (imo), free 90 so you can start right on WoD content

If you don't already have a server, your welcome to join my guild on this one, we are a very friendly guild and use vent everyday chit-chatting, and we have two raid groups for WOD. Leader is husband and wife, and we have a few other couples with us. So you two may fit right in!

WOD has a great storyline, and I am enjoying leveling my guy to 100..takin my time as I go to enjoy all the small things.
