Yo, this is a story thread of your characters in D2, and D2 in general.

Now that the first ladder of res is coming to an end, I decided to pay a visit to my old D2 classic hc characters that I still keep from years ago.

So, you see, in D2 classic I used to play ladder like everyone else, duh, but if I felt particularly attached to a character, I would keep it as non ladder hc after the ladder ended.
But as a mostly casual and solo player, it is not very easy for me to get gg items during the duration of a ladder period or even expensive items to trade here for fg (I do get some little stuff that helps though).

So what I do is to just keep the chars and play along with them for much longer than just one ladder; I play them solo on non ladder hc, and two of my chars have survived this long:
My highest lvl, a 90 frenzy barb. I managed to stack a bunch of runes to make a forti and trade an arreats, but lots of it was solo play after the ladder ended, and in the end i managed to get it stacked with two griefs for which the last Lo I got from a baal run waaaay after the ladder had finished, like, years.
I also have a level 88 trapsin with which I managed to do ONE single uber run, along with a couple of friends; lvl 88, quite bullshit budget gear, except for the hoto; the ubers took a whole night of play (classic lan party style from the 90s) - trapsin pala and necro was the team.
I could have leveled a smiter, but I felt like doing an assassin, just for fun; anyways, doing ubers was a milestone for me and the buddies.

These are my two special hc little beams of light that help me remember that not all lord de Seis summons will kill you and take away your hope lol

In d2 res I have a decent lvl 86 sorc now; I can do kurast chests for mf very fast now, so maybe this helps my future non ladder play haha

Do you have any stories about your diablo 2 experience? any special characters that matter to you or that have accomplished something that is a feat to you? or a piece of equipement that you have saved from years ago?

What do yall do with your characters and equipment when the ladder ends? duel them off? delete them? keep them as museums, or to play more solo on closed bnet? or with friends?

I usually play and keep all the characters and mules just until i get demotivated for various reasons. Just let them be on the account. I may get instances of motivation wherei want to test out things again, then it's good to have them there. I delete everything at the end of a new ladder season, then restart again, usually with a new strategy.

TL dr

Played softcore for the longest time, refused to do hc when a friend insisted.

He started inviting us to ironmans though and they were so much fun.

Stuck with it, got tppked and pked a million times at first.

Finally started figuring things out, how to spot sketchy players, avoid any class with missiles, never take a tp, always leave game immediately on hostile.

Now I give back to the community like they gave to me when I was new. I pk everyone and send lots of dirty portals.
