failed set/unique items only have bonus to durability, not to quantity. these are two different properties

dura works for javelins when used in melee attacks
just try eth titans and use melee only, the quantity will go down every time the durability of one single javelin has been reached. as soon as you start throwing them, dura will go up again though thanks to self-rep

interesting thought! weapon dura is only lost by melee attacks or certain skills. smite uses weapon dura, but can't be used with bows (since you can't equip bow+shield). dragon talon does not use either weapon or boots dura iirc. blade shield does use weapon dura, but I don't know if it can be used with a bow... maybe shapeshifted druid since bows will be used as melee?
