Never really gotten a clear answer on this one. We all know that conc does not work with bone skills like it does with hammers. I've never really gotten a good answer as to why.
Ive had people say that it only works with "combat" skills, but it works with normal attacks, bow skills, jav skills, shape shift, etc.
Ive had people say that it only works with melee damage, but as far as I can recall, hammers have no physical damage (hence why wave 2 sucks)
Ive had people say its due to some stuff in previous patches, but dont provide that info so it doesnt really answer the question.

I know I have been playing much too long to ask this question, curiosity is just getting the best of me recently. Considering conc boosts the magic damage of hammers, why does it not boost magic damage from bone spear/spirit.

It "only" applies to physical damage

Concentration applying to hammers (at 50% efficiency) is due to auras behaving differently in earlier patches.

E: It affecting hammers is listed as a "hidden" effect on the wiki.

concentration aura only works for physical dmg from weapon attacks, with blessed hammer being the only exception (because of reasons...)

that means: no buffs to elemental or pure magic damage, no buffs to physical damage from spells like tornado or war cry

This is all the deeper I have ever seen on this question. I'm still curious as to if conc ever worked on bone skills in those earlier patches as well. The aura is also well over 50% effectiveness as well. Without conc, I have 2.7k hammer dmg. My conc give 585% enhanced damage. Hammers with conc are doing 11k-11k dmg so its working at around 70% which tells me the folks stating that, dont really have all the answers either (you're far from the first I've seen with that stat lol). The only conclusion I have been able to draw is that the issue comes from the name of Blessed Hammers. Almost like the algorithm read the Hammer and applied the damage as if it was like a battle hammer.

I understand Psychic Hammer exists and also does not get the buff from conc, but sins werent around to begin with. I don't really know why, but the whole situation frustrates me and has since like 2005

There is no "algorithm" that reads the text name of each skill. English isn't the only language option either. As far as the game program is concerned, a skill can be referred to by a number.

The original developers wanted blessed hammer to have an aura it could be paired with. And that makes sense, but since the skill basically is AOE (not exactly AOE but close enough) it is way stronger than something like bone spear. Although I imagine that bone spear might be pretty good with a sunder charm.

no it is at 50%:
2.7k * (1+5.85/2)=10.6k which is shown as 11k in game, so the math works as it should ;)

but I can't tell you if conc has ever worked with other exceptions than blessed hammer, maybe search for the old patch notes and see if those mention changes to conc

I've been playing D2 Lod Online since 1.07 and at least since I've been playing bone skills have never been buffed from conc. I've been a sorc/necro only player since I started. Pre 1.10 Necro players were definitely a strange breed.

With sunder charm, bone spear is going to do 5% of its damage to previously immune monsters. Since you can’t further lower the magic resistance dog monsters, sunder charms are next to useless for hammer and spear/spirit.
