What killed the game was 2 things really

There was a big ban wave first up, that banned everyone that was using a way of loading up 2 copy's of d2, which had been used for over a decade safely at that point. So, like 300k accounts from legit players got banned.

Then there was a patch that fucked up hit recovery and made dueling really annoying.

By this point, around 90% of the "lifer" player base had quit.

d2r was just the nail in the coffin. I think I almost threw up when I saved and exited for the first time and saw the new battle.net interface. Disgusting.

Edit: the experience may be different if you are not from Europe I guess. This is my perspective.

Yes... written this many times, but i agree... i think the division of player bases between too many consoles, versions, realms, d2/d2r, ladder/nl, all these things, demoralizes people too much.

Blizzard should just kept everything on pc, just focused on keeping the original d2lod as flawless as possible. Get rid of bots and ban toxic users.

i disagree
if D2R was a fun game it would be well populated on all servers & versions
unfortunately the game sucks so hardly anyone plays it
but yeah having a small population of players spread too thin across separate servers made it even worse
i think they expected it to be alot more popular than its turned out to be
also toxic users are what made D2 fun.. now everything gets censored and you cant even talk shit anyway
D2r is basically D2 without a soul

1) I think the game looks good, but it just isn't as good to be worthy of a successor of sorts to d2. I haven't bought played it though, but i don't think i need to to understand it.

2) Good that you agree.

3) Toxic users are what keeps everything from becoming a good player base for good people. It's the poison that keeps solid communities from being formed. So blizzard should have a lot more focus on that.

4) That's a good description.

300k accounts? I don't think there is even that many people in total around the world that still play this game...
