As we know, many of the item names in D2 are a reference to something, like pop culture or a joke between the Blizzard employees who created the item.

I'm curious if anyone has ever heard anything about where the Nagelring got its name? Was there someone named Nagel that it referenced?

I was watching a 90s cartoon and noticed the word Nagelring pop up ( https://youtu.be/zPtt0O9RIGc?t=347 ). I'm wondering if this might have been what inspired the name.

Only factual thing I know about it is that nagel means nail in German, as in those you use to knock into wood with a hammer. How that relates to the stats on the ring is a mystery to me too.

I spent the last five hours combing through Wiki, Reddit, and a diversity of diablo forums to find this as a reference to the name "Nagel"

So, a Nagel is a gel which consists mostly of sodium and often has a gemstone set into it.

nagelring is a sword from a german saga with some kind of speacial meaning which i haven't figured out(source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagelring).

the sword "nagelring" was created by a dwarf named Alfrik who was captured by Thidrek. in order to get released Alfrik gifts the sword to Thidrek. Thidrek uses the sword to kill the female giant Hild and her husband magician Grim. Thidrek got famous for having lots of adventures like that. but the "nagelring" sword wasn't his best item. his best item was "helm of two beasts" which he got famous for as well. edit: turns out there are numerous sagas and the sword generally plays a role in many of them. i assume your catroon/ anime is about these german sagas from the 13. century
