I want to push my characters power but the problem is the game isn’t scaling upwards for me to want to push my character power. Example, I’d love to use infinity and fortitude on mercenary or beast on my summon Necro but the P1 content is so faceroll it seems pointless. I want to be able to consistently push p3,5,7 content but there is no consistent way that I know of. What is a consistent way to play in higher player games that aren’t just Baal runs that end in 3 minutes? Like I know people hate bnet having player adjust but damn, how do you make content harder?

If you're playing D2 for difficulty you're playing the wrong game. Even if you move to single player to consistently do /p8 games you'll still hit a critical mass where pvm becomes a non-issue.

You could try classic and avoid playing the actual good builds (ww barb, cold/fire sorc, hdin). Amazon playthroughs can be particularly miserable.

Maybe some of the single players mod like median XL, as that's a mod that takes most aspects of the game to it's absolute extreme. Never cared for it myself but might be up your alley.

D2 is not intended to be difficult

Making friends is the easiest way to try higher player counts but it doesn’t make anything harder. It just takes longer.

Play challenging builds. Bowa hardcore. And don't buy fully decked high end gear. Start fresh and use what you find.

At least with d3 you could scale as high as you wanted and there is a ranking associated with it. Having player count as high as you want would certainly add that type of element.

I know it’s not supposed to be difficult but why have powerful gear but not powerful content to use it against? The gear out scales p1 so significantly but no way to consistently play high player count to scale up with.

The game's not fun because it tries to be difficult. It's fun because a) pvp is very engaging and b ) the rush you get when you find a very rare item that is a huge upgrade for one of your characters.

Problem is, we're all playing with fully decked out chars. When you're just starting out and have negative resists in hell, and you're not a sorc, it can be quite challenging and slow going. Every piece of gear you find is massive and the progression feels very rewarding. This is especially true in hardcore mode - which might be the experience you're looking for.

Hell, I still got that feeling on my infinity geared light sorc just recently when I found a 20 life/10fr small charm. Her FR isn't fully maxed and she can take a lot of damage against pit lords or even diablo in sanctuary, so finding that small charm was huge. Sure, I could have sold it for fg's, but I personally get a sense of self-fulfillment when I find a piece of gear and actually use it.

My problem is those upgrades aren’t upgrading because the content is already faceroll without it. I want to push my gear because i need it to push p7 or even p11 or p13
