Is this a catch-all phrase for all casts, or certain spells only?

With all the new +magic dmg or -enemy magic resist, for warlock specific, does magic mean miasma only, or will fire count?

only certain spells. before this xpac it was basically necro skills like teeth, bone spirit and bone spear. as well as pally skills like holy bolt and blessed hammer. beserk also converted phys dmg to magic dmg. other than that it was just a few random items that added magic dmg.

But now with warlock, its basically just miasma?

no, there are multiple skills from the warlock that deal magic damage.

Which ones?

Blade Warp
Eldritch Blast
Hex:Bane (which combines with Echoing Strike, and well another other phys attack)
Miasma Bolt
Miasma Chain
Abyss

All of these are "magic" not elemental, not physical.
