Good morning all

I decided to start playing hardcore, and i made a bowazon as my first hardcore character.

Can anyone help me with this build in hardcore, i was going to put 20 in multishot, 20 guided, 20 crit, and the rest into other passives.

And for stats, enough str and dex for gear, rest into vit.

However, it seems this character is going to suck in hell with no gear,

Should i change my current build for hardcore? or maybe i should respec to a javazon?

Thank you people.

well bowazon is highly dependent on gear so you'll have to spend a long time farming nightmare compared to other builds
do nm chaos runs

Well, the thing is, it's really not much difference than sc ... only difference is you must play much more carefully. Because bowa needs good gear in order to make progress in hell mode, both in sc and hc.

But .. you CAN make progress with mid-range gear too. Only thing is you need at least a semi-strong merc, and lvl 20+valkyrie, and utilize them to the fullest. Make them go upfront always, don't rush ahead. Always cast decoy in front at least, and let them engage while you stay at support range.

I personally like strafe better than multishot. It gives better control of the situation.

Any exceptional unique bow, or especially the harmony runeword in a decent bow, can make progress in hell mode. Witchwild string is a one-off. When the amplify damage casts, the monsters do go down quite easily. That is why i like strafe, also atma's scarab is perhaps the best item for bowa in this sense.

You will always struggle with hit points as a bowa, unless high end geared. Around 1000 hit points is normal, and maxing resists is always an issue. So you simply cannot tank much. But, when or if you get used to playing defensively, you can absolutely make progress through hell. Only real big hazards are ranged boss monster packs, and if lacking resists, watch out for the cold/lightning enchanted boss monsters.

As written, at least a semi-strong merc is in my opinion, necessary to make it through hell. Insight in a good polearm, something like a good treachery or duriel's shell, and some kind of leech helmet (blood crafted helmet is an option), is a bare minimum.

But yes ... moving on to hell mode underprepared is going to result in two things: A quick death, or extreme frustration and hard work of barely making any progress. And empty pockets after merc repeatedly gets slapped into oblivion by the first zombie boss pack you meet.

Check sticky guides. Bowzon is one of the slowest chars to finish the game especially for hard-core. Squishy and very gear dependant. So lots of grinding and hoping you dont get ones hot by souls

Your best bet is starting off jav until you get runes or a decent bow, and then respec, Xpac really isn't that hard so if you MF enough in NM, then Act 1-3 that should prepare you for 4, then MF Mephy/Diablo until you are ready for Baal act 5.

You might even end up switching to java, however if you are set on bow, you might want to add freeze arrow in there to freeze a mob then light them up with multi.

IAS is definitely your friend here, and if you pickup a buriza throw a shael in it and you can easily clear hell.

Javelins are op in the beginning, it is true. But they do run out fast, meaning a bit more hassle. You can make okay progress with a bowa early. But you usually start struggling a bit in act 4-5. The big thing with a bowa is finding a good bow. If you don't, things do get slow, that i'll admit. But it is still possible to make at least moderate progress. You got the merc, and at level 30, start skilling valkyrie and pierce, that helps.

3 socket hunter's bow with gems is usually the big go-to at the beginning. A bit contradictory to physical damage. Topaz is great, 1-8 damage from chipped. If you find damage jewels, they can be used too. I have made 3 socket armor with damage jewels, they do boost damage.

Freezing arrow is good, but needs lots of skilling in order to deal enough damage. Usually better to just stick with physical+strafe. Critical strike helps.

I usually like to use strafe instead of multishot. It is not a bad thing to just skill guided arrow either. If you have trouble finding good gear, and struggle with attack rating, guided arrow is not a bad choice to skill hard. The mana consumption goes down, and every arrow hits. Especially against bosses this is a great thing.

Buriza is strong, and upgraded too it is better, AND even if you do okay in hell with it, will not clear hell easily. Will do -okay-, but not great.
