I just played POE for the first time and I am wondering why people still play D2R? Poe is like D2 but so much more fun and not broken. You can actually progress through the campaign and after only once your in the end game which is insanely expansive.

Then we have D2R, where if your not a hammerdin you have to respect 2 to 3 times to reach endgame, then tirelessly farm for gear for thousands of runs. You constantly hit brick walls and then you can't even play certain areas of hell based on your build.

Then there's trading, D2R is so trade dependent it's basically just the most expensive pay to win game on the market. This makes this game super classist. Over-Privileged people just buy their gear and skip the entire game just to get on a leader board? Poe has trading but I never felt the need to use it, and it doesn't seem like the community is exploiting it like the elitists at D2R. I think trading just ruins these types of games and gives an unfair advantage to the rich.

D2 legacy is the best game. To all your points:

1) It's not trade dependent at all, i've done one of each character this HCL season, with almost zero trading. By making multiple characters, you can use gear you find on some characters, on the others, that are class dependent and those that are not. This keeps the game interesting.

2) You can do any character, but hell is definitely difficult for any class or build, especially in hardcore. But it is also manageable if you play right and do some farming in nightmare. Farming is part of every single game there is.

3) You can also choose not to trade with people that cheat. Just find a group of people that play legit and stick with them. This is the same with any game.

Did you make your account name just for this post? One can clearly play with madness. Watch me: perhaps you should post this thread on poeJSP.com

Just in case you want a real answer: Some people just really like the game. Others play d2r for the nostalgia, the chilled out mf runs (on console you can play leaning back!), the chance to make thousands of fg if you find that one perfect rare item, camaraderie and playing with friends.

if you’re so worried about people buying their gear and g rushing through the game you should really try offline mode (hardcore offline mode is even better). There’s inverse lag. Just ID one item with a scroll and see if it doesn’t startle you with how fast it goes. Plus, you get static maps (unless you wanna roll em), can share items between characters and control the player counts. P8 tzones w/ solo killing XP, yes plz!

With all that being said…DAMN IT!…I do wonder about trying POE. LoL

The biggest draw for d2 for me has always been the casual nature.

Sure, I get spurts where I want to try ever meta build and have best gear I can haggle, but also times where due to work, I cant get going till mid season/zero chance of leaderboard etc.

D2 is set no major development changes.

D2/D2R is more like how life works.

That's my theory as to why it's kept us hooked. The game is both easy and hard, depending on your perspective.

If you need end game gear, perf charms, etc etc, it seems hard or you pay to play--same as life. Want more money? Sacrifice more values.

If you are content enjoying as it comes, upgrading as you go, and often grinding on one plateau before having a break through, D2 does that.

In short, you're not rewarded for minimal effort every time in D2. I haven't played POE so maybe it's great, but what you described sounded like it's cheap fun.
