What are ppl looking for on them, for what build(s) and what to use the socket for?

I'm guessing Jmod, but i dont see why Palas would want the deflecting mod.

Enlight me plz, ty.

jXod (deflecting) and jXoc (colossus) are the ones looked for, but at this point there is only value if the automod is also close to perf (45@ or 65ed/121ar)

what PiXi said

as to usability, jXod or jXoc are good for Smite vs Smite duels. Since smite cannot be blocked, Colossus > Deflecting (although %block can come handy vs charge).
that's the only niche that type of magic shield really shines in.

they are usually socketed with 40ed 20life jewels and/or Ber runes

ty both. Also, is there any time in duels that the shield could break? Any use for eth/repair ?
edit: I guess the + def wont help as much.

eth/rep is important for a lot of rare items, not so much on magic ones (magic only has 2 affixes, so most times you dont want to use on of those for repair). eth/rep is only useful with a high enhanced defense since high defense is the only advantage of those items. ofc this also depends on if def is even needed in your type of duel
chance to lose dura on shield is 2% after being hit by a successful melee attack (i.e. hit and not blocked)
