I want to make sure before i try upgrading again, but if I upgrade a pair of 30ed magefists, and the result isn't 71 Defense on the first roll, than there is no chance of getting 98 Defense on the second roll ?

base defense is always rolled randomly and independently. so the base def of the first upgrade does not matter for the second upgrade

Except if there is a +xx to def (flat) attribute on the item stats. Then you always get the perfect roll during upgrade

no. you alwys get the same +def bonus, but the base def is still random

I always dropped exceptional-just-rolled items because they were "not perfect roll" xD :rofl:

Hmm if I remember right, base uniques with ed have a +1 base defense bonus, this doesn't exist after the upgrade sadly :(

correct, this goes for rares and magics and superiors as well
