Google diablo 2 shadow plate:
Defense: 446 - 557

557*1.5*2.79=2331

1.5 - eth bonus
2.79 - ed bonus

my bad, totally forgot to consider eth bonus...

if any armor item spawns with inherent ed, its base def is always (base def for non-ed +1), i.e. maxed out. this is why any 15ed mage plate has the same defense. but if you upgrade an armor item, the base defense will be rolled randomly, so you can get low rolls here
