^@Xaysia, that's awesome statements and news, thanks for sharing.
It's basically what I told everyone, the bots going down was nothing but an indirect side-effect of a version upgrade. However the removal of .dll files also seem to have been more of a direct effect towards [certain types] of bots. (presumably the more efficient, modern ones actually).

Looking forward for every new info we get, and hopefully they intend to have some fixes/counter measures against hacking ready to be deployed at reset, which would obviously be best timing to release it. not a week before and not a week after^^.

Don't remember which ladder it was, but they actually released a patch just in time for reset. Most pub hacks were down for weeks and that was one of the best ladders I'v played in.

+1, I'd like to see it again.

Regardless of what happens, I'll play again in the upcoming reset. Hype is real!

Anyone else notice when you log into an unperm character that it now says "expires in 10 days" ...it used to say 11 days, right?

Well you can now play this great but dead game on more modern operating systems.

Half the comments in this thread prove that this game does not really have any longevity cause its third party programs that everyone runs that are logging in to the servers on a daily basis.

If pigs do happen to fly an they get rid of said programs it'll be the final nail in the coffin, but let's be brutally honest the op and the wishes of the very small pool of active players really are clutching at straws if you believe your getting new content, or a ban on third party programs.

This game is the game of all time but bots ruined the fun part of it and im pretty sure if we get a update it will be alot of more physical players

So why is Blizzard releasing Warcraft3 updates today after making somewhat of a hot mess out of D2? I am assuming it's the same very small group of guys doing these legacy updates, so that means they are currently ignoring D2 while working on patches for other old games?

That's actually something i never understood and wanted to ask: how can someone's bot ruin a game for you or in general? Hacks & exploits, yes, they cause lags, drops, long waiting lists etc. But how can one's bot who's running chaos or baal or auto-enchanting you ruin the game?

Why do people run bots? Beacause they want them to do something that is not fun, catching or challenging, something that is completely boring and nonsense. Like running glitched bosses hundreds and thousands of times to find at least semi-decent stuff. Or killing Baal and his buddies thousands of times to gain at least some end-game experience. One must really like the pain and have a lot of free time to do it him-/herself. But most of the people are not masochists and they have their schools and universities, jobs, families, friends... Let's be honest, we've all bought cheap stuff here harvested by the bots, joined chaos and baal runs conducted by the bots, let chant-bots enchant us. Why? Because we want to feel the full power of the game characters we've built, which is completely natural and human.

So here's my bottom-line: bots didn't ruin the game, the fact that mf-ing and levelling in a legit way is so boring and pointless did! Let's make it clear: i don't want it to be easy, i want it to be fun and challenging! Which it's not atm. Maybe one day Blizzard adds some new content to D2 like bosses who drop nice stuff but are extremely hard to beat, new fun areas to lvl etc. Dunno, whatever, it's only important that we want to do them ourselves. Until then - there'll always be bots.
