Hate to play devils advocate but eshay is 100% right
Pvp was never a focus of d2, the devs slapped in the option to duel but never paid any attention to it or tried to balance it
Hence why the glorious d2 pvp you guys swear by is nothing more than characters flying around the blood moore using 1 mechanic (chainlocking) and 1 unintended bug (wsg) with a list of “gm and bm” items and every “pvp event” is community hosted and never in an official setting
Hate to break it to you guys, but while pvp is fun in d2, it’s dog shit from a competitive perspective. The skill cap is nowhere near other games, the brainpower requirement is nowhere near other games, and the attention the devs put into it is nowhere near other games
you are correct, d2 pvp was accidentally good.
the devs never really intended it for any competitive play, but players loved it and tried to create gm rules to enjoy competition between players.
it is a lot of broken mechanics and bugs adapted to be gameplay techniques, but that is all good fun.
broken games are fun.
tbh this is common with a lot of games that were accidentally good. broken af and glitches become gameplay techniques.
and this is fun, d2 is kusoge in the rpg pvp world and that is a good thing.
I dont think d2 pvp has an esports future, nor do I think it should be balanced for esports.
but I wouldn't be playing d2 if it wasn't for the pvp.
I don't think I would care much for d2 if it was pvm only, kinda like I dont care much for d3 cause its pvm only.
I think this is the concern, if d2r bugs are "fixed" with modern day patching, will the pvp still be accidentally good?
