With current number of players the load of the servers is so low, that almost anyone can host whole legacy D2 on his home pc
Still, the reputation damage if they will close servers for the game, which have earned so much money for them during this 20 years, would be too huge.
They will keep the game alive, but the same situation with non working game creation again for the second time already with a lot of days nobody even trying to fix anything, is of course annoying.
