ill put this in more specific details:

when an ambulance comes into an e.r., they have to check that patient in to our computerized system (which is what i do)
i take down their demographic information aka phone number, address,etc.
depending on how critical the condition of the patient...i tell the ambulance to go to a certain part of the e.r. so they can receive treament asap.
then i go in the patients room and collect and insurance information for billing and answer any question regarding consents for the hospital....thats about as easy as i cna explain it -.-

sounds like it wouldn't be all that hard

well when you explain it...your right it doesnt seem hard....but i put that in lamens terms as much as possible....much more is done within the job...thats just a way to give you a gist of the explanation
