People would have to man up.
Everything was better in 1.09 and below.
going to have to respectfully disagree since 1.10 added a huge dynamic of greater build diversity (pvm and pvp!). Remember how cheesy every dual game was with a "burrito zon" and re-piercing ga's? .
I think the main problem is botting and making what should be scarce runewords common(along with full inventory of awesome charms and killer jewels). I particularly like the increased 1.13 (plus fixes like no more aura stacking bug, no more drop barbs or tppk short of an oversight on revives) rune drop rate to where legit players can have 1-2 decent HR items by ladders end with patience and consistent running.
with respect to enigma, the increased play mobility was huge. Here's a post that I feel sums it up pretty well.

enigma is not overpowered. An overpowered runeword would be one that made other items obsolete in comparison. There are many other armors than enigma that get used; vipermagi, fortitude, bramble, stone, prudence, tyraels, ormus, chains of honor, these all see use. Sure, enigma did make some armors like arkaines obsolete, but enigma created so many more viable builds than it shut down. Theres very few builds you could say aren't viable because of enigma, yet it created so many more, like wind druids, ghosts, bvc, etc etc etc. Enigma adds a great deal to this game
Grief, on the other hand, breaks the game. It was a horrible design for a weapon- it is absolutely better than every other weapon, period. Before it, items like EBOTD, EDC, ERM, Silence, CCBOQ, Rares, even things like razor's edge saw use.
Now, grief has made ever single one of those obsolete; its a sort of power creep; it gives you a weapon with at least 430 average damage, higher damage than the highest damaging before it, faster than the fastest, and with deadly strike to boot.
Zealots and barbs and melee druids all had many options for weapons before, now the only option is grief, honestly
The fact that it was buggy with smiters and made them ridiculously overpowered by giving them 5x the smite damage was just insult to injury. Made zealots even more obsolete.
before grief, smiters were actually rare. thats the one item that broke d2, not enigma

yeah cta problem gets runner up. However, while it shuts down pvp by making it 100% necessary on 100% of char builds, since its only on 2nd switch the only thing it hurts are chars that needed their switch slot (other than barbs). So yeah it hurts things like wwsins (widowmaker) fury druids (2 hander switch, harmony), etc, its not that big of a deal for most chars. In fact, for the most part, it simply makes it as if the 2nd weapon slot didnt exist at all, and that chars simply had double the hp, etc.
The real problem is, if cta *didnt* exist, barbs would be wiiiiiiiiildly overpowered
7000+ hp bvc's against 2000 hp pallydongs?
but grief is hands down the worst things in d2. They musta been smoking crack when they made it. On the bnet forum thread when d2 was announced, i actually pointed out what it did with smite 10 seconds after the team previewed it, 2nd post in the thread. I think my comment went along the lines of "Oh fuck what have they done to smite, gg d2". Honestly, i think they accidentally thought that all +400 damage would do would be to add 400 elemental damage of "physical" type like a +400 cold damage mod would do, you know? I think that grief was entirely a typo by blizzard
