It's not bulletproof and doesn't check if you can imbue the item before the point where it fails a drops it but it's better than it was. Belt/cube/mercenary interactions might be worth prodding though. Depending what's in the cube transmute might be cool.

I'm somewhat interested as to what legitimately gets a character into this state. Obviously the grid cache is fairly buggy not correctly checking bounds and leaving stale grid data but I iirc the client would need to believe it could successfully place the item before attempting to do so and believe the item were in hand. The only time a client legitimately gets an item into the cube they're not holding while holding an item is on inventory load *I think* so I have a little trouble figuring out how a client could know the ID of the item in hand and be in a state to insert it without knowing the grid were occupied.

If you have repro steps for this without using any modifications to the client I would be interested in discussing this. It's probably something obvious but I don't have a lot of time to play with it myself these days.
