It will just die out lets face it

they may come up with a quick hotfix, but, it's doubtful now since they haven't touched the game for years. most people who worked on it don't even work for Blizzard now. What are they gunna do? hire them back? head hunt them all? hire a new team? a new patch might create more problems than good, will take a lot of testing and writing, may make more dupe methods available ect. They would have to put a lot of time and money into it to get it right without faults and they just won't. Just need to realise d2 for what it is now and either accept it, uninstall, play private or play single player.
It was a game made 14 years ago for dial up internet. It uses such a basic client server model that it's almost impossible to secure because there's too much trust in the client side. Also as far as I'm aware, their compiler is so incredibly old (won't even do it to c++ 98 from what I've read), it would be a big mission and probably need lots of re-writes and to update their model that they just won't do it, unless some hobbyists do it out of good nature in their free time, which they won't, and current blizzard employees are working on Legacy games now.
