the term rush implies speed and/or efficiency. the single element cold sorc is very efficient and fast at rushing all of norm/nm and then act 1 hell literally
in minutes.
act 2 hell is the
only part where they sometimes stumble - the fact that it's not always an issue means for most of us playing classic, that it's just more efficient to have the maximum killing efficiency where it's needed (the first 9 acts worth of rushing) and either lure away, or remake the game - or fire up loader and grab a 2nd char to clear those areas, or page someone on the /f list. I should add, that most of us dedicated to playing classic will also most often use this build and in fact specific sorc for other uses than simply rushing for forge (a useless quest on classic). Most are also set up for hell Andy/Mephy Glitching or lighthearted SvS builds - neither of which is well suited for dual element trees.
if one is going "pro rusher" status and rushing mass quantities of folks in 8 person games, time-after-time-after-time then it's warranted to have the 2nd char regardless.
I will also say again, based on a couple years worth of having high level dames, that I have yet to see nm seis spawn ColdImmune/LightningImmune - but he fairly frequently is Cold/Fire Immune.
For those that point out he's still cold immune and that it presents a challenge - one or three hard points into lightning mastery combined with a +2, +thunderstorm or electric tree shopped staff,when combined with static field spamming will kill seis, even in a full 8 person game. I've ended countless full nm cow games in that fashion...
