dude, you didnt read what i wrote, man ...

Again:
Perm bb's can't poof.
Unperm bb's poof if they meet the same id (if they are on the same server at the same time, not just in the same game at the same time).
Items get the same id when they get duped, but only if they get duped AFTER the specific patch that i mentioned in my earlier post.
Which means every bb that got duped BEFORE that patch has a different id.

That's exactly what i was saying, just in other words, but ty, i appreciate it..

A clash test is never 100% definitive

Only self found with history can really be called perm

There were X perm buggbelts. They were perm, because they ware introduced to the game (imported?) before items had individual IDs.

Then blizzard made individual item IDs.

Someone had a full inventory of bugbelts on same character (say 20 bugbelts) and then duplicated those belts AGAIN and AGAIN.
So those 20 bugebelts were copied 20 times, then again 20 times, then again 20 times.... by duper A.
So there are say 30 000 bugbelts made by duper A, but they only have 20 unique item IDs.

Then there could have been dupers B, C and D, who also duplicated 20 bugbelts - probably with different numbers.
Duper B could have made 5000 bugbelts -> out of original 20 belts -> so only 20 unique numbers.

I remember you could buy a whole char of bugbelts for 10 fg each -> or 200 fg in total.
So the guys who could dupe, were duping A LOT.

So your "safe" unperm is not that safe. Because "everyone" who bought bugbelts, bought from the same 5 - 20 (?) dupers.
If there were 20 people who knew how to reliably dupe (what is probably on high end) and each had 20 belts -> then only 400 unique IDs.

Andeveryone bought unperm items from the same 5-20 suppliers.

So no, your unperm bugbelt did not magically became perm because people keep quitting. Because they werent that unique.
I think I have an account with few unperm bugbelts -> I think from Xe***n (or what was the name of the guy who sold unperm duped jewels) - and your buglelt could be from same guy.

Random thoughts:
-With fewer players (people quitting) you should use fewer servers too -> so chance to meet player using a bugbelt is growing up? Because at some point everyone will be playing the same few servers?
-(contradictive to what is above) My random bugbelts put on characters didnt disappear yet, even if I somtimes forgot to perm items -> what is not very logical, because I think with fewer players, chance of meeting another bugbelt should grow?
-Perhaps lots of players who bought bugbelts quit / got banned, but still, the number of unique belts that were copied again and again is probably small (say 20 dupers x 20 full inventory -> 400 unique IDs)

-you can always make a real clash test, ask your "friend" to equip the belt and run for 3-4 months every day. Although it can still miss the relatively short time window needed by somene else to refresh their mules.
For example I login to refresh my account every 2,5 months for like 1 minute and perm my mule. What is the chance of you meeting me in game, if you arent on 24/7? Relatively low. But one day you can meet me in game and your belt poofs.

If someone wants to buy random unperm belts with high overprice, you can let me know hahah :)

I see what you mean with that it's a bigger chance to meet someone with same BB id, cause fewer player's. And i'm not saying or thinking that mine will be perm magically because of ppl getting banned/quitting or expired, but if it was clash tested and passed all id's possible.. And i'm saying that a 10 year old id doesn't seem likely to collide today :)))

I edited my post a bit.

For example, what is the chance of you meeting my ~10 unperm bugbelts that I have on random mules? I refresh those mules every 2,5 months -> logged in on each char for say 1 minute.
If you arent logged in during this time, you are safe.

But one day we can be both logged in during same time -> and our belts come from duper A -> so they will be detected by the dupe detection system.

In general I think it was closer to 5 people selling belts -> because very few knew how to reliably dupe.
For reference at some point there were like 1-3 people selling duplicated jewels. I very doubt that someone made "private" dupes.

So I guess you have to keep perming your chars if you want to keep the belt.
You will never be sure.

Maybe until the game is like Diablo 1, where there used to be like 3 plaeyrs on servers.

But I have at least 1 friend who does not play the game at all, but just logs in every 3 months to refresh his stuff. You still have a chance to meet him. Probably in the evening hours, when he is outside of work. Or on weekends.

Yeah it make's sense, but if i want to perm it or not, i'll think about that myself haha! But don't get me wrong, i will never dare to try to sell this BB as perm'd even tho it have been on mule for 10 years, and even survived 10 years of game playing without perming. Haha! I'll tell the story as it is, but i don't even wanna sell it tbh, i just want one for myself to use :)))

I might decide to just not perm, and see how long time it can survive.. if it does survive 1 or 2 years, then i imagen that i'll try many clash tests haha, and it's really just because i'm curious about it^^

But thank's for sharing your thoughts, i appreciate it! :)
