Pvm and ladder resets kept the game alive, pvp was always a side thought. Pvp was who could buy the best gear, hacking, afk in town, and trash talking on forums / in game.
Yes pvp was about the best gear, giving pvm people a market to sell to.
Without a market, very few people would farm baal for 20 years, to farm baal, to sell shakos to pvmers, who need gear to farm baal, to sell shakos to pvmers, who needed gear to farm baal to sell shakos to sell to pvmers…. Etc etc etc etc.
Yes pvp kept the game alive.
