General Legit Hardcore Rules:

1. Dueling characters must be exactly the level of the tournament category, (except referees and looters, who have to be level 1). No exceptions.
2. No hacks, or 3rd Party Programs allowed in Duels.
3. Pots are allowed, but no use of refilling wells/shrines allowed. Automatic lose of that duel if a dueler is seen refilling on a well/shrine.
4. No external (from a different character) BO or pre-buff, only your own. Mercs are allowed.
5. Duel must be completed in the presence of a Duel Referee.
6. Leaving the game, or returning to town, or running/teleing away from the duel for more than 10 seconds, counts as a defeat.
7. To advance you need to win 2 out of 3 duels, unless you kill your opponent. If you kill your opponent you move automatically to the next round.
8. Players must obey Referees request for screenshots prior to duel.
9. Failure to obey the rules will result in a disqualification from the tournament.

You know I've thought about this Rule to be added:

Paladins are only allowed use of "Holy Freeze Aura" if and only if they are dueling another Paladin.

I thought it would be okay to not completely outlaw it but to limit the use of such due to the inability for other classes to combat the Aura even with "No Freeze Equipment"

My good friend Whiskey, 2014 HC East Legit Dueling Champion, I understand your concern and since both of us are members of the Great Alliance, it is good to have this type of discussion and debate regarding the issues and rules on Legit Dueling.

Your recommendation is well taken but I respectfully disagree because "Holy Freeze" is a skill from that particular class. For example, how does a non-Barbarian counter a barbarians bo and massive life?. Hows does a non-Assassin counter their ability to get extra xx% damage reduction?, hows does a non-Amazon counter their natural ability to Dodge attacks?, how does a non-Druid counter their bugged 1-life glitch?. Paladins have very low life and can be killed with 1 or 2 good blows. Therefore, a Paladin needs all it can have to defend and protect himself. Same with all classes, each one have their pro's and con's. This is the good thing about Diablo 2 PvP.

The good thing about our Hardcore Legit Duels, is that we have no skills restrictions. Everything (regarding characters skills) is allowed in our tournaments. If we, in the Great Alliance, pass and accept your recommendation, then what is it to stop someone else from banning "curses" for example?, then another one will propose to ban something else, and so on, we will be opening a Can of Worms here and we will end up looking like Softcore. We don't want to look like crappy Softcore with their 5 million lame weird restrictions, taking the fun out of dueling. Do we want to look like Softcore??

There are tactics that can be used to fight against "Holy Freeze" aura paladins, but I don't want to discuss my tactics in public. We can discuss them on PMs or in Bnet.

Anyways, I'm happy that you brought this issue to the topic, because it enriches the Legit Dueling discussion in the Great Alliance.

I'm going to vote against Holy Freeze simply because it can't be dealt with via Anti-Freeze gear, like Rhyme Shield, Death's Sash, gear that would normally keep you unfroze in that situation. Holy Freeze was not coded for "No Frozen" items and I still feel strongly that a paladin does not "need" this Aura for a fair duel. Paladins have plenty of Life in my opinion, just as much if not more than an Assassin or an Amazon, and well a Pre-buff Shape Shifter or Barb will of course have the most Life out of any class. I understand what you're saying about you don't want Hardcore's Freedom turn into a long list of restrictions as seen on Softcore. That's why I say it's not completely "Outlawed" only when against a different class, so Pally vs Pally would be legit as they both can freeze each other. I expressed this concern to another dueler, but their reaction was, Oh I'll just use Rhyme Shield with the No Freeze Attribute, but there is a common misconception due to the flawed coding. To me it makes sense, if I wear gear that says I can't be Frozen and I'm being froze.. Well, that's a bit much so my Short, Story, Short, I am going to Vote in favor of that Rule being listed. I would like others to voice their opinions in favor or not in favor, other duelers in this bracket. Looking forward to legit duels, it's been forever!
