Long time ago (maybe 2012?), someone found an item duplication method in LOD.
That person, or group of persons then proceeded to run bots on few servers, duplicate stones of jordan and then spawn Diablo-clones.
This wasnt as visible in LOD (more servers), but in classic it meant a Diablo clone in basically every game.
For classic it was a week of Diablo-clone hunting (same in LOD, I got many annihilus charms there).
Most people used barbs to kill the clone, as long as you had some crushing blow and leech, killing him wasnt that difficult. You didnt even need 75% res, but it helped.
In fact I remember I killed him using my PvP barb that has crappy resists, but I equiped the gnasher unique (20% crushing Blow, 50% open wounds) + swordback.
Some players also kill the clone with a hammerdin - they just drank some red pots (those 15k dmg hammers still hurt the Diablo-clone and damage him faster than he can heal).
In fact at some point people would get bored and would spawn him outside of CS, the CS team would continue CSing and others would just drag him on some random unique. Everyone wanted that normal Diablo exp

As far as I remember some players also killed the Diablo-clone with Javazons and Blizzard sorcs too - they did it more for "sport" - to show that it can be done (probably took more time with sorc and lots of pots too to deal with the regeneration; I dont remember killing him with sorc personally though).
Most players used barbs with a combination of crushing blow (from goblins + maybe other sources) + open wounds that would rapidly cut the Diablo-clone's health and stop his health regenreation. The last few hits would be made with a "real" weapon that has some damage.
I think I had screenshots of this in my profile, but at some point d2jsp shortened the profiles.
