The game's not fun because it tries to be difficult. It's fun because a) pvp is very engaging and b ) the rush you get when you find a very rare item that is a huge upgrade for one of your characters.
Problem is, we're all playing with fully decked out chars. When you're just starting out and have negative resists in hell, and you're not a sorc, it can be quite challenging and slow going. Every piece of gear you find is massive and the progression feels very rewarding. This is especially true in hardcore mode - which might be the experience you're looking for.
Hell, I still got that feeling on my infinity geared light sorc just recently when I found a 20 life/10fr small charm. Her FR isn't fully maxed and she can take a lot of damage against pit lords or even diablo in sanctuary, so finding that small charm was huge. Sure, I could have sold it for fg's, but I personally get a sense of self-fulfillment when I find a piece of gear and actually use it.
im talking about D2R, if pvp worked properly id be happy and would never get bored! PvP is what kept people playing LoD for the last 20 years
but since D2R is purely PvM i am seriously struggling to find a sense of fulfillment or incentive to keep grinding.
i agree there are aspects about the game that remain addictive like when you finally MF that gear that you really need
for example i made a bowzon a few days ago and i needed eth titans for switch and actually found some last night which made me feel good for about 5 seconds
but then i remembered there is no pvp anyway so why do i even need this crap why did i even make a bowzon lol why am i playing this stupid game?!
