The base itself has the id, not the runeword. White base items are considered junk items so the game saves cpu cycles by not assigning them an itemid. They only gain one once you put a runeword in it for the first time.

This doesn’t do anything.

White items are given an item ID when a runeword is put into them. If you hel it, it still has that same item ID.

Therefore, if you dupe a white item before a runeword is put into it, there can be 99999999999999999999 copies that are all perm.


But if you dupe it after the runeword is put into it, they are all unperm until there is only 1 left. Then when there is only 1 left, the one that is left is perm, regardless if it was the original one or one of the ones that were duped.
