Yes. Blizzard should have gone out with an attitude campaign, and they should have implemented a 1$ a month payment plan in order to have dedicated people working to remove bots and botters consistently. It may not have eradicated everyone, but 90% is better than 20% or however much they did get.

But it's the fans' attitudes that should be targeted. "If you truly care for a game, do not buy items for money, you are then supporting the murder of your own game!" or something, should be the slogan.

That's not surprising.

oh but blizzard did respond to the hacking occurring on the realms, they even coined the term and called it the rust storm.

patch 1.10, released october 28, 2003 blizzard implemented a piece of code and washed away all of the duped and hacked/illegitimate items from the realms at that time

it was a very very sad day for many in the community

right at the end of D2 LoD days some guy (Ryan is his name) hacked everyone's accounts, took all the best items in the game for himself
most items were 50k+ value but that soon turned into worthless
most of the remaining loyal players quit because of this
logged in a couple weeks ago and saw the hacker guy in game playing all by himself, he pretty much begged me to go outside so he could pk my naked barb 🤷‍♂️
didn't give him the satisfaction lol just left him to play alone
what a fkn loser

at the end of d2/lod? the game went downhill in 2005 and died in 2010, as far as the hacking of accounts and items being stolen and you can guarantee those items were put up on a black market/3rd party auction site and sold for cold hard cash, probably kept a nice fully geared char for himself in the process

i still play alone, does that make me a loser too?

no this was only a few years ago. he jacked everyone's account so fast no one was dumb enough to invest $ back into Diablo
why would you if some nerd can just log into your acc and delete your shit
thats what killed the game for good

as for playing alone thats not what makes you a loser

if i remember right, the last time i heard about classic d2 accounts being compromised was around 2020 of april. the vulnerability that was exploited during that time might have been the result of players using hacks, sometimes the coders will write malicious code and obscure it, this is a possibility as well for that situation.

also it did not really stop people from gearing up again, just look at east and west trades it's still live with people buying/spending fgs so no, it only made a small impact in my opinion.

no all the big rich 100% LEGIT melee players all quit after their 100k items got stolen off their accounts. the hacker even told me himself all he needs is an account name
he would browse trophy room to see whos got what and then log into the account and take it just like that
it had nothing to do with 3rd party programs and backdoors. and it did have a huge impact on D2's long term population who had been playing for 20 years
after the melee guys quit then the FPK guys quit then the pubs died now its just a few bots doing baal runs RIP

very very interesting, i would like to know how that vulnerability was found, just a account name huh? the only thing i could think of for that being the case is if blizzard had their database breached with usernames and passwords. ouch! that would be terrible if true

.. i hope they did not store those usernames and passwords in clear text, lol it would not be that hard if it was clear text vs being hashed/salted ect

if this was proven to be true then blizzard is at fault for having crappy security and should hire guy and put him on their sec team

well there was another site that people used to buy & sell valuable items and most of those melee players with deep pockets would use it
i think the conclusion was that the site was hacked and alot of the passwords to access the site were the same for peoples D2 accounts which i dont believe
i think this guy found some other way, interestingly he could do it to unregistered accounts with no emails associated

d2 was popping until 2018 then all the “legit” fpk’ers got banned for hacking/botting . 3-4full active nonladder duel games and 2-3 on ladder 24/7, more populat than d2r pvp has ever been.
Got decent again late 2019 then some hacker dude stole like 90% of people’s accounts in 2020’ish
