Tal + Amn + P Ruby = socketed Shield (this must be white or ethereal, NOT superior). EDIT1: can get from 1 up to 4 sockets depending on base and ilvl.

EDIT2: if you want 4os guarantied, use larzuq's quest on that shield and it'll get 4os for sure

Just remember when you cube a normal item to socket it's literally a dice roll. You could end up with a 1os Monarch, even if the item level will allow a 4os. Larzuk it if you want certainty.

It is not a dice roll.

cubing works a bit differently though, its not a straight 1 in 4 chance at 4os, there's more of a chance to hit 4os because if it rolls 5 or 6 socs it will make it 4os since that is the max amount of sockets allowed.

The cube recipe for sockets doesn't give you maximum sockets based on the ilvl, you can roll anything between 1-4 on a monarch.

1 Tal Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Ruby + Normal Shield = Socketed Shield of same type
The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-4 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. For example, if you have an item that can only have 2 sockets, there's a 3/4 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/4 chance of getting 1 socket.

Ye my bad I misunderstood this when I read it before. I thought the max # of sockets was always weighted at a higher probability but that doesnt look like how it works.

this is true. max slot position has the highest likelihood of rolling when cubing plain items.
