never in 20 years of playing seen this issue.. stuck on Checking Versions and times out to "b.net not responding, try again"

As a test, try to play on another realm... Try Europe. If it does not happen there and only on your main realm, you may have been temp flagged for something. Try first and see what happens.

Are you playing on a shared wifi access point or using a vpn? In case you did not know, pls do not use a vpn. You get like a 2 or so week time out for that.
