GW1 was one of the best games I've played.
But its dead as shit now.

TBH, I might reinstall even though my account got hacked and they salvaged my fow+chaos on every char :( Still devastated about that hahaha

GW2 is the better game.
The only reason why GW1 players will claim GW1 was better is due to nostalgic memories. Even I had to stop and consider which game was better at first.
But truth be told, if you had never played either game until today and then test played both today for the first time, anyone would adhere to GW2 over GW1's flat-footed old style engine.

Typical ignorance.

If GW2 was a better game I would play it.

Its garbage.

GW1 & GW2 are two different styles of gameplay.

Pick your poison.

Honestly the bots aren't really a huge issue anymore. The meta right now is 2 front 2 mesmers (1 dom 1 wastrels interrupt spam) and typically either a paragon or a splitable air ele. Everyone is kind of on equal ground with interrupts these days.

Heres what I wrote up complaining to one of the devs last week:

Hey Joe, I know you are going to give that whole "game is in maintenance/report to support" thing you do - But let's be honest. That doesn't work. It hasn't worked for years. We are running into some game impacting/gvg experience issues. These are becoming major issues where one person is ruining the game for everyone. This seriously needs to be taken into consideration and escalated to someone who can take care of this. Let us do a quick overview:
1. http://gw2w.de/ <- This is a player made working ladder. Notice the ability to "Show Unimportant Guilds". These "Unimportant" guilds are mainly syncers (and botters if I am not mistaken). Those who do not play this game but merely join gvg matches against each other to either have a high ranking/rated guild or to farm champ points.
2. http://i.imgur.com/ACeQFTn.jpg <- This is a daily AT played morning American/Afternoon Euro. These ATs are always either dead or 3 rounds consisting of 6-8 guilds. All of these extra guilds? Afk syncing guilds who have entered purely to afk and grief everyone else actually playing. Now, you might say "but you get to play 5 rounds!". Normally that would be really cool. But if 2-3 of our 5 matches are hitting join only to find out my opponent is 2 afk players + 4 henchmen having a powwow with the Guild Lord, well, 1-2 hours of everyone's day just got wasted sitting around.
3. The ladder. Let's be honest. The ladder has been dead. It has been dead since ANet made the mistake of freezing rating and then nerfing ladder rating. However - There is a huge problem with these syncers that there are a few who have bots set up to wait for matches all day long. Once the match is entering - they will purposely leave before the countdown timer is up so no match officially occurs. This happens over and over. It prevents any ladder matches from ever even occurring. No rating is gained or lost.
The point is... You guys have claimed to have Guild Wars in a state of maintenance. This is not maintenance. The kind of maintenance you guys are doing right now are what countries do to maintain their Olympic venues after their hosted games are over. It gets covered in rot and filth and eventually people stop visiting. There are a few things that could fix this issue just to give you some ideas: Remove the GvG countdown timer = no time for the syncers to leave prior to a match. Only allow guilds with 1010+ rating to enter ATs. (Prevents all the syncing tanking guilds who can't sustain a positive rating to play ATs). Ban the players/guilds performing these actions. If none of the above problems and or solutions make sense, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to discuss these issues via phone, skype, or ts3.

You make good points, but you're assuming too much of their "state of maintenance". What they mean is that there's some content being rotated, so that the game's meta can still evolve and events will still occur without ArenaNet having to do any updates.

Fixing issues -- however glaringly obvious they might be (and the ones you pointed out are exactly this) -- is something I can't imagine them doing anymore.

I was mocking the person I quoted as if people hadn't considered comparing the two games without bias. Jump a little higher so it doesn't go over your head.

The meta has kinda stalemated because of people's lack of skill. Mesmer do as much damage as elementalists if not more now at the same time of shutting down said elementalists.

I can't imagine them doing anything either - and I wish I understood coding. Maybe I don't wish I could understand it so I wouldn't get frustrated by the lack of action. But I can't imagine an automatic guild rating reset being tied to a calendar being too hard to implement.

I like how the zerg in this GIF has some of the characters disappearing/reappearing randomly. Just like in game.

Seriously though, can you please stop being a dickhead and accept the fact that some people enjoy what Guild Wars 1 has to offer and not what Guild Wars 2 has to offer, and vice versa?

Guild Wars is better in personal opinion and I'd have to agree with Motoko.
The only reason Guild Wars died is because they stopped releasing new content, and instead released a game I could not even consider titling Guild Wars.
It's not that we're all nostalgic about Guild Wars, it's just that the type of game play that Guild Wars offered was incredible. There was a variety of odd builds you could make, mixing classes was a ton of fun, and you could even make some funny builds that made no sense, but might get you kills.
Money was a lesser issue as there was always a way to get the specific weapon skin you'd like to have and there wasn't a ton of grind within the game. They truly just wanted the player to experience the game, and the combat it brought to the table.

If I had to talk about Guild Wars 2 as an MMO by itself and not being a second Guild Wars game, I would say it's pretty, the combat system is basic, but it will give you things to do for about a month or so before it gets incredibly repetitious.
Some might find they like it because the combat system is a lot more simplified without having any sort of build theory crafting rather than just what kind of gear you'd like to go for. Though most of the time there is only "one true build" that outmatches that specific classes DPS output.
Typically that flies with most MMO's anyways as there being a top DPS build, but something about this game just felt way more boring.
Outside of combat there are some fun activities that you can play with, such as the southsun brawl and the like. Running missions with friends and generally exploring is a pleasant experience.
My take of Guild Wars 2 has been that of a generic MMO experience at the end of the day with a Guild Wars name slapped on it.

As always, to each their own.
I still do not agree with TSBoyer on his bias that the Guild Wars players can not drop the "past" rather than just knowing the true difference between the kind of experience you get with the separate games.
I personally have not been able to find a Guild Wars styled game in sense of combat or really even aesthetic.
