here's the best way

0-40: 100% queensdale, wayfarer foothills, plains of ashford, and metrica province. they are all starter areas so shit will die quick.

40-50: storyline quests from quest levels 1-30. you'll get 2 black lion keys in the process.

50-80: max cooking, artificing, and jewelcrafting. these are the cheapest and fastest disciplines, and you will use many materials you've gathered from doing the map completions. using the guides that dj_hydra posted

if you come up short on cash and wind up level 78-79, do alternating CoF runs: 1/1/2/2 repeating to keep max XP per run.

This seems like a pretty alright way to do things doubt the 5 starter areas will get you to lvl 40 tho so you have to do a bit more. Just make sure to follow your own level if you can for most possible xp.
