Hypothetical here;
You play PoE and have FG, and need Exalts - you spend FG for Exalts. GG
You play game and have many exalts, but need FG - you trade Exalts for FG. GG
You've got dudes "investing" 100+K into gg '08 pre-patch melee items as a means to stash FG and maybe turn a profit, but if they needed the FG - they can offload and get it back.
Pages are no different, it's an in/out system just the same.
Also, I don't know if you have an idea how silly people get in trade threads or DM's when you're north of 500K fg. Pages is a simple method, with a trackable ledger, and a community of familiar faces whom cash in/ sell out regularly at a fairly stable and consistent price.
HR's Exalts etc are seasonal timelime dependent in value, and GG melee items are finite in volume. Just about every in game currency has been used this way, and it's the entire reason this site exists. Wealth transfer
