Hi, a friend of mine recommended this game and I was like "okay, whole world saying this is awesome, lets try it"

Well, went in, tried on pc, had to figure out the keys because there was not much info about it. The tutorial cave was fine. But after that I felt very lost. I instantly didn't follow the main quest (like in other games) but focus on side quests. Went into a cave, just go killed instantely. Went to another cave, same thing happened. Went to the merchs, sold items, bought better stuff, still died.

This game left me behind very frustarted. The story line wasn't touching me the slightest. It just seemd like some made-up plot nobody really cares about. I usually care a lot about those stories like in Skyrim or Witcher or whatever.

I also hoped to find some information about mobs in the area, like some "radar" menu that displays the mob level or something. So you at least know that this area is meant for beginners or just too early yet. But going in and just dying is so frustrating.

I dont get it, maybe it's me. But I absolutely can't find any love for that game. I've tried, because everyone seems to like. But it's horrible for me.
Lmk guys if you guys can enjoy it :)

Since you paid for it I'll give you my tips

I've thoroughly enjoyed souls games since demon's souls which was without a doubt the jankiest most convoluted RPG I've ever played.

First, if Zelda games are primarily story-driven environmental puzzle games with monsters to keep the action. Souls games answer the question: What if the monsters we're the puzzles and the story only served to encourage the player deeper into the game? Elden Ring is the first with heavy emphasis on story but it's still a souls game.

Tips:
Get a controller. This game was made for controller and it's the cleanest controller layout I've ever seen in an RPG. This is one thing they got absolutely right in demon's souls. KB/M don't cut it

Classes. I want to tell you to pick whatever class appeals as should be true of any RPG. However, this is Soulsborne. Mages are going to give you a jump in accessibility because you can evade and cast until you run out of FP and then rest at sites of grace (bonfires in previous games). Bosses will be harder but this is an online game, you should be summoning assistance for bosses

Map and remap your gear until you get a feel for what you need. Your X button (Xbox controller, square on PS) should be your flasks (down on the D-pad to swap between HP and FP). Nothing more, nothing less

For combat:
Dodge is everything. Dodge, dodge again, dodge more. Cast/swing only when you already know the attack patterns of the enemy you're fighting. Enemies are the puzzles (back to my Zelda comparison). Drink flasks when you know you won't be hit, swing when you know you'll make contact and block only if you must. Blocking is great but it will cost you so much stamina you won't have much dodge left. If you had to block, you should've dodged instead

Leveling:
This is an RPG but you have to intentionally level. Do you have runes enough to level? Do it, don't wait until you die and lose them. Are you poor in runes? Time to explore because your cost of dying is low. Don't get stuck in an area you can't beat, either level until you can beat it or spend your runes and explore until you find something you can beat.

Summoning and leaving signs:
The multiplayer is so elegantly subtle that new players find it lacking. If you need help, summon another player and don't die. If you want to explore or practice a boss fight with zero consequences then throw your sign down and somebody will summon you. If you die in their world you lose nothing. If they succeed in an area, you get massive rewards. Easy leveling with no fear is gathering runes in another players world. The elegance is that it incentivizes community without clunky lobbies and chat.

Lastly, as others have said: get good. These games are so beloved because the difficulty makes it actually rewarding when you beat a boss or discover something new. The power ramp is such that the opening area is absurdly difficult when you start but by the end of the game you'll cut down chumps like butter

wow thanks a lot for that feedback
in reality in the meantime i tried the game again
i'm currently in front of that gate in the first region, where this big boss jumps down
i had like 5 lvl ups yet, by farming those weak soldiers in that "village" right in front of that gate
upgraded my sword, my armor, my shield and all that

but still, i loose every boss fight in the dungeons
where i mostly die when i try, and i frustrates a bit

- wolf dungeon in start area, boss kills me
- "village" golden soldier boss
- that bigboss that jumps down after passing the gate
- ...

not sure what else i should do, maybe i just suck at this :D
when i watch online letsplayer they just playing some sumarai with that block-stamp
he's even killing all bosses i've problems without really leveling or upgrading gear...

Elden ring is basically an mmo, can coop anywhere on the open world map unlike other souls games, you can coop with a squad through the entire playthrough if want to, and theres trading also, hope elden ring gets it's own section here the game is a huge success.

Alright so I'll give you another souls tip that I didn't think about because I just do it now but when you first play it feels wrong. Most games coddle you by assuming your level at a given section of the game and adjusting region enemies/bosses to where you should be at. Boss is too strong? Skip it. Enemies too strong and your frustrated? Why fight them? Dodge through and get whatever ridiculously powerful item they're guarding because if you die you keep that item and only lose runes. Runes are valuable and you should hang onto them unless it's to your advantage not to cling so strongly to life

If you're talking about the giant ogre that jumps down right after you get your horse, you got a horse now, sprint past him. You'll get another flask and some upgrade materials. Worth remembering where bosses are for later but if you can't beat them, push past.

Wolf den boss? I would say I'm fairly seasoned and he was tough but beatable. Persistent swings which can be tough to telegraph. Don't get hit, block isn't doing you any good if it bleeds your stamina clean. Another side note never let your stamina go to zero. Dodge, dodge, dodge, recharge stamina, cast. If you chose a melee class, get behind him. Rolling around is tricky but if you can get behind him, one of his swings will miss without the need to dodge, that's your chance to swing. Don't get greedy, this isn't a hack and slash. Once you get your hit in, dodge away and recoup, let him be the swinging madman. If you're a caster, use a sword for the Den so you have flasks to fight the boss (this is a good rule anytime you have some fighting before a boss when you're ready to beat them).

Keep in mind you're supposed to die in this game. Every death is a lesson, don't get frustrated, just take a deep breath and ask yourself what you learned. Only proceed when you're ready, either for a skilled attempt or from grinding until your build is stronger.

Coming back to leveling, it might be worth looking at builds online for stat allocation your first playthrough. I don't do it any more but this helped me get a feel for what I was "supposed" to be leveling when I was new to souls games. The game is difficult enough that this isn't really cheating, you could have a perfect build but you'll still need the skill to play it

It's supposed to be that way, and it is supposed to be hard. Google from software, all their games are renowned for great difficulty XD

"YOU HAVE DIED" is a phrase I have seen over 10,000 times in the last 15 years or so haha
