When playing the Engineer does the shield count as a melee weapon if I'm using shield bash/fire bash? w/ sword & board skill maxed? Like a smiter on D2. Help me out.

No. Sword & Board simply duplicates and converts part of the def stat from your shield and adds it to normal atk damage.

So what kind of character should i make or what skills should i level per say if i want to do something with blitz and aegis?
