sure, why not? the devs gave us the modding tools and freedom to mod the game as much as we want.

tho i'm not sure if you find much help here as some people tend to think that modding is the same thing as haxing.

anyhow, i can try and help you. i haven't modded tl2, but plenty of other games.

I wanna try one of the mods that opens up other classes and allows me to play something other than the 4 original classes but I dont want to if its going to affect my otber characters. Can I have the mod to play a new class then turn it off and play my berserker with my friend unmodded?

modded saves go to different directory than non modded. if you have the game on steam you can choose to launch the game with mods or without. if you choose to use mods, it loads up the characters that you have used mods with.

so mods only affect the characters you have used the mods with. there's also a tool that removes all mods binded to a character, if you wish to play the vanilla game with a modded (un-modded after you've used the tool) character
