In your first playthrough is it better to max your offensive skills and leave your defensive skills for ng+ or put some points into all skills, and build a balanced build?

first few offensive then go put some in def (depends on build / char, etc)

Others only use offensive... Hard to make def on ng+4

I have an Engineer with skills boosting damage, speed, etc and others boosting damage reduction and armor etc.
