Engineers have force field and heal bot, which makes them almost impossible to kill.
And focus increases damage by leaps and bounds.
And with focus you're going to gain access to a strong Dynamo Field, which builds up charge for your skills/Force Field.
And then you just get 1000+ gobs of gold on the ground.

Kinda just want to play on the chars we already started but good tip tho, and about the gold, we would like to only play with self found gear, but thanks a bunch for the offer tho.

The fastest way beside what Red2Blue said, has to be item whoring... Pick up everything (Whites, Greens, etc), and make your pet do some foot work. Also, since you are questing with a buddy, always spawn in town, dont bother spending the gold spawning at the start of instance, or where ya died. I always seem to get gold at a decent rate. Good luck! 
we are already doing that atm, but we wondered if there was any nice events to farm etc
