can normal players play online with veterans etc?

and whats the meaning with choosing that in the start? :S

Yes, if you create your actual character in single player on normal. You can play with Veterans/Elite lobby's when you go on the internet. And as for starting that chooses your difficulty for you for when your offline not playing with anyone.

= leveling faster/progressing faster = your able to join elite games with high levels at that point

I play normal by myself but with people i prefer veteran.

ohhh i chose elite from the start thinking since its harder, i'd get better loot and that it'd be where i would find the most players from here lol. I'll stop crying at the difficulty and get the pussy difficulty
