does the difficulty change the item drops, like better ones in veteran/elite than in normal

and does being a group augment chances of having high drops

I think the reason they did that is because modded toon's can just merk everything in elite and get all the good loot if it was that way. So it wouldn't be fair to the other players, that's the most viable explanation i see for that.
