You peoples take the internet way too serious.

I think its more of a defensive thing.

There is a lot of us who have used these forums for a very long time and don't appreciate when trolls or multi's try and rant about bullshit that doesn't even matter to begin with.

So when someone goes to talk shit about community forum that people have used for awhile, people will get defensive and argue.

Its funny though because its people like this guy who are coming from even worse forums (runic forums) and think they can call this site trash when its been so successful for years now.

You ignore people like that because no matter what you say or how logically you argue against them, they will not adhere to your way of thinking.

I guess. I usually post to hope to knock some simple minded common sense into people, but usually your right.

It goes in one ear and out the other.

Hence why your were like the only person I talked to on DD's. Your just easy going and actually listen.

Why would anyone play this game and try to be "legit" at it, and then come to this forum to buy items that effectively makes the person no longer "legit"?

I mean what I would call playing legit, is playing the game start to whenever you consider finished, without using the console or buying items. Here you purchase forum gold, and then buy items. It literally blows my mind. Sure you could have received forum gold from trading in another game, but it still doesn't make you any more legit in Torchlight 2.

There are just too many ways players can get around the cheat flag, even with the most recent patch. I would like to list a few so buyers can be aware of what they are probably getting.

1) Using a mule, you can use the console to spawn tons of gold fish easily. You then place that in your shared stash and sell the items on your "legit" character who will remain unflagged. Anyone claiming to sell millions of gold "legit" is a flat out liar. I have played ALOT since release, and getting that much is not possible without using the method I described(or the others I did not mention) or at the very least what they are considering "legit" is cheesing Phase beast zones for hours(and I still would not call that legit.

2) Adding to the first point, it is incredibly easy to make a cheat mod that drastically increases the drop rate of gold and unique/legendary items, and this will not flag you.

3) You can also spawn Uniques for the level range you want your unflagged items to be, then transmute them 4 at a time until you get all kinds of nice unflagged gear.

4) You can copy your shared stash, remove the items, then overwrite the empty stash with your old one. This dupes items.

So basically what I would like to know is why does this forum exist? I am seriously not trying to troll. I signed up just so I could hear your reasoning for spending what equates to real money for items in a game where the cheating is so easy to do.

BTW I fully understand buying gold in other games. I've bought gold. I enjoyed it. I had no intentions of ever playing legit though. So if you are here because you don;t want to be a cheating console user, than why are you cheating by buying gold/items?

/mind blown

Imo you got a lot of undeserved complaints for this post.

I'm gonna try to answere your original question in a more constructive way. This is the way I see it and i believe many here would agree:

Me myself haven't spent any irl money at all on forum gold, I've been working hard and spent a lot of time earning it through other games (mostly D2 and D3). During that time I've had a lot of fun (otherwise I wouldn't have played the games). I see d2jsp as a way to earn fg at the same time as I'm having fun enjoying a game, and what's perfect with fg is that it's a global currency, it works perfectly good in (almost) every game. This means when I decide to stop playing one game and start with another I can spend my well earned fg on that new game to improve the experience of that game. I don't see any reason to stack up a whole bunch of fg, I'd have a good rotation of fg in whatever game I'm currently playing

With that said, on to the question; Why use fg on a game where you can spawn and get everything for free?

Most of it rounds up to finding a way to keep things legit. You want to enjoy the game as it was originally made while taking advantage of the fact that it's multiplayer which makes trading possible, just like in any online rpg. You buy stuff with fg with the hope and trust that the seller has earned the stuff in a legit way. Of course there is no way to be sure of this what ever the seller claims but it's still a way to ease your mind. I kind of see it as "now I bought this thing and therefor it just became legit since I used my well earned fg on it" and I don't really care where it originated since I will never find that out anyway. It's a way of justifying (if only to ourselves) the legitimicy of the items. Now after the patch when items spawned with the console gets marked (yes I know you can still duplicate items through shared stash files without getting the item marked or download shared stash files with whatever you want that doesn't have marks) but it sort of raises the value of unmarked items since they just became slightly more complicated to get.

Another thing I want to point out is that many of us miss the good old days when D2 was shining. In many years we've been trying to look for the game that could replace the epicness of D2. It's not only the game itself that we are missing but also the whole community with trading and socializing we had here on d2jsp. When D3 clearly wasn't the game we were searching for, we kept searching for other ones. We probably will never find that perect replacement but TL 2 is in my opinion pretty close. So to extend the feeling that it's the new D2 we are using jsp for trading and socializing just like back in the days.

Here is a bunch of other reasons to why we are trading with fg:

  • You don't need to use the console, on any character, ever
  • You don't have to google for cheats and mods
  • It's often faster, you get the item/money directly instead of needing to read around on how-to's
  • You don't risk anything messing around with files

Hope this gives some clarification

Thank god! Someone that didn't take my post as some super offensive flame towards the website. What you said pretty much explained it perfectly.

Never meant for anything I said to be offensive (at least on the first 2 pages.) So anyone that actually wasn't a douche on this thread, I apologize if something I said was inadvertently offensive.

Thanks for your time.

Thought what he wrote was pretty much common sense. Sorry for not knowing you couldn't comprehend this community without a breakdown as in if you were in a middle school classroom..

I also feel comments like these are unnecessary, he thanked me in a very nice way and also apologized for his behaviour, yet you respond in a very harsh tone picking down on him. And no, I think most of what i wrote is not common sense unless you've been a part of the jsp cummonity for a while which he apperantly hasn't.

In general it seems to be a very unkind approach to fresh members on this forums, why not be more welcoming? It would help expand our community and make it friendlier.

I actually would not mind getting into this sort of trading. It seems like an interesting way to benefit from one game going into a different one. I just wanted to know how that worked for a game where you can choose your own level of success from the start by modding/cheating. You answered that question :)
Thanks for partaking in a mature and constructive discussion with me.

I pay no mind to motox. Being a tradesman myself(mostly commercial construction work) I know how plumbers can have a bit of a social handicap lol. Nasty bumps on the skull from playing on his dirt bike probably don't help either. It was amusing for him to refer to me as "kid" when I am 9 years older.

Is there a TL:DR version of the last 4 pages?
