imo modding will be interesting to mess with after completing most of the game. I don't see how players will mod to begin with, ruins the game if used too early on.

Vanilla, absolutely. Hopefully Runic allows private servers and someone creates a server with no mods, and allows only one difficulty (think closed bnet).

Vanilla. Maybe mods later that do not change gameplay, but rather enhance it.
